Our burp clothes are made from Prefold Gerber Cloth Diapers.  The Prefolded center is super absorbant.  But who wants to carry around an icky white cloth diaper as a burp cloth.  So we jazz them up a bit!  We add a 1.5"-2" ribbon trim to the short ends of the diape..
